"The Terror"

During winter lockdown in 2021, I watched the television series "The Terror" wrapped up in my coat, hat and jumpers as the heating had broken and had to be replaced. For a few weeks I was very conscious of the cold and reliant on plug in heaters and there was few places to go to escape to due to lockdown restrictions. I would have loved to drawn while the series was being aired, but it was too cold to sit still for very long.

The series is available to purchase on DVD or watch on demand on BBC I-Player.

Strangely watching the series under these circumstances made it more vivid and conscious of the sub zero temperatures the crew had to endure not just physically but mentally. There is so much attention to detail, in one scene where you sense it is so cold that Captain Crozier cuts his eyebrow. Watching in my coat and hat, I felt like I was part of the crew and really warmed to the characters, particularly the complex relationship between Captain Crozier and Captain Fitzjames portrayed by Jared Harris and Tobias Menzies who gave a brilliant performance, and you do not know what is going to happen next.
