The Cat

Written by Claire Drake

Tabby, fluffball, hill,
Bowie eyes, cyan and lime,
Watching, waiting, still.

While I was living away at University, I was inspired to write this poem about a sweet natured cat who lived in the house. When I first came to view the property, "Mousey" jumped down from the kitchen cupboards to greet me. My housemates were pleasantly surprised as she was grieving for her mummy who had passed away and would sit on top of the kitchen cupboards all day. She would only come down for her food and to use the litter tray when no one was around. She must have sensed I had a gentle nature and would be down to see me most mornings while I was getting breakfast.
